Posted by T.Davis Yes, I have been to Bandana Square several times in recent years. I have also sold occasionally at that club's flea market at Bandana. A friend of our club is a member there and built that replica of the Union Station. He once lived in Winsted. I have also been to Montevideo several times. I am an inactive member of that group, but several friends are very active in it. I attended the Milwaukee Road Historical Association annual convention there in 2001 when Milw. Rd. 261 steam engine visited to give rides. I gave a presentation on Milwaukee Road's branch line to Hutchinson (pulled up in 1957.) I have also been to Jackson Street, the Minnesota Transportation Museum (they also offer diesel excursions at Osceola, Wis. and operate the Minnetonka steam boat at Excelsior.) The last time I was there was in 2001 during the Great Northern Railway Historical Society convention in St. Paul. The GNRHS and a Northern Pacific group are creating their archives in a special room at the roundhouse. I haven't been to the Canby depot, thanks for word that it is now open. I have gotten into taking depot pictures over the last couple of years (I always took pictures of them while railfanning, but now I plan trips just to shoot depots, too.) There are several still standing in southwest Minnesota Fulda, at Mountain Lake's heritage park, Sleepy Eye (the newer brick one and the original wood one a block east), St. James (the active UP one and a wood one in a park on the west side of town), Pipestone, Luverne (still used by a short line), Wheaton, Fairfax, Westbrook, Belview, Clinton, Lucan, Hendricks, to just name a few in the state I've been to in the last couple of years. I have a slide show with about 200-plus depots in the midwest. All put out good quarterly publications and have annual conventions that often feature visits to roundhouses and shops that you can't otherwise get into, and often have special excursion train rides. Most have the conventions within an easy day's drive of Minnesota, though the GN usually goes every other year to the west coast (Milw. does, too, sometimes.) The CNWHS will be in Green Bay next year, while GNRHS will be in Havre, Mont. Soo Line is at Stevens Point, Wi. this year on Oct. 4-6. I think Milwaukee Road's is out west in 2003 after being in Madison, Wis. in June 2002. Check out their web sites for membership information if you wish to join. Most are $20-25 per year and well worth it if you are into a specific railroad.

Hi, Peggy:
Haven't heard from you since before our LLRC show in Hutchinson last October.
Just a reminder, the Hutch show is Oct. 12, 2002.
Also, if you have an interest in any specific railroad, such as a fallen flag (a railroad that is no longer around or had been merger into something else), you might consider joining the historical society that covers that railroad. The following are some that might interest you, and their Web sites:
Chicago & North Western (also cover M&StL and Chicago Great Western) Historical Society: www.cnwhs.org
Great Northern Railway Historical Society: www.GNRHS.org
Milwaukee Road Historical Association: www.mrha.com
Soo Line Historical & Technical Society: www.sooline.org
Rock Island Technical Society: strom.simpson.edu/-rits/ (haven't tried this one lately.)
