Did any LLRC members get out and see the Milw. Rd. 261 roll through the area on June 2-3. On Saturday, it traveled to Willmar. We followed it from Dassel and got to watch it be turned on the turntable at Willmar. On Sunday, we photographed it at St. Cloud and got to see it back onto the bridge over the Mississippi R.
Just a reminder to members, Soo Line 2719 will pull trips from Ladysmith to Superior and Ladysmith to Jct. City on June 16-17. A few coach tickets remain according to the Web site: www.2719.com.
The 261 will again be in the area June 29-July 1. On June 29, it will pull a Milwaukee Road Hist. Assoc. train round trip from Montevideo to Olivia. On June 30, it will pull public trips to Granite Falls and Appleton (likely turning on the wye at Appleton for the return trip July 1 from Monte. to Twin Cities.) Those trips are about $24 each. See Web sites www.261.com or www.mrha.com. Also, a one-way trip is scheduled July 1 from Monte. to Twin Cities. Tickets about $79.
Also, the 2719 will run five weekends in July at Spooner, Wis. See the upcoming LLRC newsletter Pres. Mark Braun is putting together for more details on all these steam trips either to ride them or photography them. You may not be able to see steam in Wisconsin much longer if the CN takes over the Wisconsin Central.
