I sold a Van de Stadt Splinter to a guy in Scotland who built a Lysander and ran a sailing school in Oban. He often sailed in open waters. Said that an ex SAS macho lived on a Lysander and sailed out to St. Kilda so they are sea going provided you ballast them well. Single handed is OK if you bring all the bits of string back to the cockpit. Percy designed her as a river & estuary boat but I have heard of crossings to Ireland. Remember the adage of a prudent seaman - Anticipate the worst, expect the best, and you can take what comes. Happy sailing with your Lysander
