thanks for your help as usual I was eager to get back on the water and i used a verry small amount of vaseline more to help assembling I had desided anything i used would be flushed through or block the pipes didnt bank on the posablity of it perishing,kids are on line most of the time and iv'e only just read your email, I have used the engine in salt water for a hour or so and all seems well. thanks again may God grant you meny happy days sailing Geoff
