I have always sailed on the Glenridding end of Ullswater - but I can't recommend launching at the sailing club - the beach shelves too suddenly - take it from a man who knows! The northern end at Pooley bridge is a better bet(and probably convenient for you) The sailing can be quite fun especially when the wind turns through 180 degrees at lunchtime!
