Posted by MajorsFan on 6/26/2006, 5:28 pm MAJOR CHANGES? Talk about putting a damper on my vacation. This is pretty much a done deal according to my sources. Majors owner Eugene Melnyk will buy the Mississauga IceDogs " move the Majors into the Hershey Centre and then move to IceDogs somewhere else (North Bay, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Nicaragua " take your pick). It’s expected that Melnyk will then have one year to divest himself of one team and these shenanigans should become official in August at the next Board of Governors meetings. In the meantime the league is trying to find an unbiased third party to make sure there’s no funny stuff " unbalanced trades etc. " between the two teams until one team is sold and moved obviously after the upcoming season. The good news is Melnyk finally finds a suitable arena for his Majors. The bad news is, I highly doubt Mississauga fans are going to support the team and Toronto fans (all 500 of them) are too apathetic to travel out to Missy. A nasty can of worms for sure. This has disaster written all over it, but the OHL only has itself to blame for this mess since it was their decision to bring three teams to the GTA in the first place.
