Posted by Hockey Fan First on 7/13/2006, 3:52 pm, in reply to "Re: Sad day: OHL giving up on T.O" I would agree that Mississauga may appear to have more families that fit the demographic that attends OHL games but there attendance has not been great either. Will the parking be free?....I know Brampton does not charge for Parking but I'm not sure if the Ice Dogs just had free parking for season ticket holders or whether they were just guaranteed a closer parking spot to the arena. I'll attend games anyway as I've done in Missy before but it is more of a hassle on weekdays for downtown Toronto OHL fans. (particularly if the games start a 7 PM) I liked the option and the rivalry between downtown and Missy. Brampton has been the most unsuccessful of the 3 IMO and I don't see having 2 GTA teams within walking distance to their arenas as being practical. I even would have preferred an arena in Scarborough for the Majors than losing a team in Toronto altogether. Believe me the Hershey Centre will be the only home to OHL Hockey in the GTA within 5 years. Brampton will not last as the attendance has not improved at all regardless of where the team has been in the standings. Toronto unfortunately for families who do want to go support Junior hockey has been marginalized again thanks to apathetic city officials who feel more of a need to pander to special interest groups and alternative lifestyle groups instead of helping build a much needed mid-size arena which could be used by the community as well as house an OHL team....for that I'm sad. Ask parents who have kids in the GTHL. If you live south of Eglinton Ave or Lawrence, every game is a road game because of the traffic to get to most arenas which are situated near Sheppard, Finch and further north, west or east of downtown. What an inconveniance.

It was good to have the option of going to see an OHL game in downtown without the traffic battle on the 427 and 401 during weekday rush hours. This will not attract fans. It may be the Majors in the Hershey Centre but that's just to make the optics look positive....in reality, Toronto loses the OHL again.
