Posted by CloverHill Hi guys, The Majors' first exhibition game was a sluggish affair with reffing from 'bizarro world', however there were some bright lights. Leading the way with a hat trick, newcomer Ryan Penney (2 PP + 1 SH goals) looked impressive with his speed, anticipation, drive to the net and physical edge, especially since he's 5'9". I was pleased with the strong play and presence of our 2 sophomores DB and Matty H. This bodes well for our future. Our only '89 in the lineup Adam Zamec (1 assist) played a feisty game and got himself into a brouhaha towards the end of the game. Looks like he's in the mold of the Booter and the departed Cal (who looked great for the red shirts). He'll stick. Scotty Lavigne had a solid game and is ready for regular duty. Cory was the Majors' leader last nite. He had a strong game (1 goal + 1 assist) and will give Haskies and Scotty Lehman a run for the "C". No doubt he'll at least sport an "A" this season. Our 6th rounder from last year ('04), Matt Caria, played well and scored the Majors' only even strength goal with a nice effort. Justin and Tyler each had a goal; with Justin contributing all game long and Tyler waking up in the last few mins of the 2nd, then finding out there was a game on in the last 5 mins of the third. In net were 2 new guys I don't think we drafted: #30 Mark Kubicz (looked good!), and #1 John Carnevale (did better as the game went on and stopped 5 or 6 shooters in the the shootout). Speaking of the shootout, the O is demonstrating it at the end of each exhibition game. Both teams have to work on this!!! Our shooters were goose egged: 1) Matty H, 2) DB, 3) Matt C, 4) Horsky, 5) Justin, 6) Cory. The lines were tinkered with but went like: Cory-Justin-Zamec Tyler-DB-Penney Matty H-Tansey(Majors 8th rounder in '02)-Matty C Horsky-Travis-Cassidy Sorry I didn't write down the Shwa's scoring info; still shaking off the rust. Also, I missed Orangeville this year so was preoccupied with the play of our newbies. Finally, if I've made any errors/omissions anywhere please highlite it. The officiating was brutal for both sides. The refs were way too over zealous in the name of obstruction crack down. There was absolutely no flow to the game. I was dumbfounded by the phantom calls against both teams, and must admit that the Shwa got the worst of it. Notables missing: Take care,
