My daughter is 9 y.o. and was diagnosed at 29 mo. with global Apraxia. She's at the point where she can articulate all her sounds. However multisylabic words sometimes needs practice. She has great difficulty expessing her thoughts in a coherent gramatically correct form,(syntax?) writtenly and verbally. She has problems with word retrieval, but its more than that. She just can't keep her thoughts in order. Now if she reads a story and is asked to sequence it, she does very well. All the print is in front of her! She can learn her spelling words for a test, but can't spell well when writing in her journal or simply writing sentences. For instance, we have been working on the word "because" since first grade. She will leave out the 'a' or 'u' everytime. If I bring her attention to it, she knows her mistake. I have been searching for the right thing that might help her...but not sure. We've started typing to learn the keys. She enjoys this. The co-writer 4000 by Don Johnston sounds like it might be what I'm looking for, but then I can't spend $400.00 with the "chance" that it will work. Would anyone have any ideas or suggestions that would help me help my daughter? I'm not even sure what is breaking down. She does well in all her subjects except spelling and written expression. Thanks to anyone that might have some insight or ideas for me. Sincerely, Wilma
