Could be the Chagos matter is still being litigated and the earlier acceptance of the Chagos people as British subjects looks like unsettled. Regardless of all this, morally aand legally, Mauritius has got out of this mess quite lightly. The Chagos people deserve better and from my own sources, they are not happy with the deal they got from Britain. They are not settling smoothly and are considered as second class citizens. Maybe, the previous writer has got a point. These Chagossians could have been much happier living a more peaceful and culturally integrated life in Mauritius.
