Posted by Kar-El on 7/7/2007, 4:22 pm This recognition of Creole as the National Language of Mauritius is long overdue. Previously, there has been a lot of resistance to giving the National status to Creole language. It's the glue that unites all Mauritians. There was this unwarranted fear that only Kreols or Afro-Mauritians speak speak creole and this creole language is easily identified to this group of Afro-Mauritians. Someone speaking creole is not necessarily a Kreol, creole, or a mulatto. So, it is quite expected that the creole language will achieve this National status. What overseas Mauritians think of this historic development?

Presently, Mauritius is moving towards adopting Creole (this is the correct way of spelling it) as its National Language and medium in our schools.
