"CREOLES and our ancestors have made Mauritius what it is today and we deserve to be congratulated for this and to be bestowed with the ownerhip of Mauritius" (Cyril's quote)
Dear Cyril,
The statement you made is presumptuous and divisive. People of all denominations and of diverse origins have also contributed to the development of the island! What about the indentured labourers from the sub-continent,they were treated like slaves too. if you know so much about our history, why can you not recognise that all the immigrants who originally settled on the island have through their sweat and blood made the country what it is today. It is true that creoles need more recognition and representation in the social fabric of the country but unfortunately, but it is a well known fact that throughout the years, a lot of people of the creole community have prefered to enjoy themselves rather than to make sacrifices unlike the original labourers from india who have worked night and day, saved all their money, made sure that their children had the best education and now they are reaping their rewards for nearly 200 years of hard work and sacrifices. I would wholly support your claim that Creole should be the recognised language of the island as it is the language spoken by everybody, however your statement that creoles should be bestowed with the ownership of Mauritius is an unjust and crazy idea. They should have a share in the prosperity of the island but not to claim the whole island!!!!!!!
I am sorry if I have upset you Cyril but your extreme and supremacist approach would not benefit the mauritian community as a whole. We are all Mauritians and as long as creoles are properly represented in the fabric of our society, we should be satisfied and face the future with optimism as a nation.
