Looking back on 2007, we have had just like many of you, very low and very high moments. We went from the scare of serious life threatening illness with very heartbreaking episodes through losing some of our loved ones to very high moments catching up with loved ones in Canada, France, England, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
All in all, we somehow flew through 2007 and come out still smiling and enjoying the company of our loved ones.
We have also been very blessed to have a worldwide internet family and the hundreds of emails exchanging our heartbreaks and joys are just incredible moments that we enjoy on a daily basis. It is even more enjoyable and rewarding to have someone we have never met before give both Madeleine & myself a big cuddle in public-just to say thank you for sharing a little bit of our Mauritian joie de vivre.
We will never forget the episode of the young Mauritian woman living in Italy on holiday in Melbourne. She shot out from her dancing partner at one of our community dances, grabbed Madeleine and was crying like a child on Madeleine's shoulder. We could not understand what was happening. She then told us: " You see, I live all by myself in Rome and when I miss my family and home cooked meals, I go to your web site and get hold of your Mauritian recipes. Then I cook a good Mauritian meal using your guidance. The smell of the food and the good Mauritian dishes make me feel at home again". This event is replicated hundredfold. Non-Mauritian partners of Mauritians overseas
surprise their partners with a genuine Mauritian meal, to the great delight and enjoyment of their partners. Some even say: "It's like Mum's cooking". Earlier this month, we welcomed "Sir" Ben Gontran in Melbourne for his book launch "Sir" Ben raconte Rodrigues. It was just a privilege to meet Ben. We also had the greatest pleasure to get to meet and know Jean Marie Richard-a true Mauritian. Moments like these are incredibly satisfying and keep us going. We also had the pleasure to meet through Christian Calou in Melbourne such great artists such as Jean Claude Gaspard, Alain Ramanisum, Eddy Armel and others in Melbourne. So much so, that we are really looking forward to 2008 with great joy and apprehension.
Thank you for your support for 2007, keep the emails pouring in and let us head for 2008 with great things to come. A very merry xmas and happy new year to you and your family. Take care and be safe.
