This is an urgent an important message to anyone who is planning to come to study in Australia for students from Mauritius, especially for Sydney students on courses like ( Cookery, business administration, chef, hairdressing etc).
Please check your Agents in Mauritius for all your paperworks ( regarding rent in Sydney, cost of living , your courses, how you will apply for your PR after your course completed, the points system for immigration and the total costs of your study). Is your trade or course on the MODL list from DIAC for PR purposes (check the website of immigration (www.immi.gov.au) you will have a good understanding of where you are heading and make a good decision. All the colleges students are enrolled are private colleges, even though the courses are approved by the Australian Government, the colleges are NOT TAFE OR UNIVERSITY.
I wish that the Mauritian Authority took note of this situation and assist prospective students with information and guidelines before they arrive here.
Anybody who has got a friend or relatives coming to Australia to study on any of thecourses mentioned above, please please please advise them to be careful, especially with the agents fees which is exorbitant. Any student can apply to those colleges direct if they so wish. Just go on the net and search instead of paying high commission the Agents.
The reason I am writing this is to inform students. I have personally met about a dozen in this situation, it appears there are hundreds.
The Mauritian High Commission and other bodies should take note of this situation and address it.
Anybody can come here to study but beware of the Agents in Mauritius, do your homeworks and assessyour situation, cost of living, fees, accomodation, food etc. It appears that once the Agents signned soembody with a college, his or her role ternminate, the rest is for the student to sort out.
Anybody need evidence or proof to back what I have said can contact me.
At this moment there are a lot of Mauritian students in Sydney who are struggling with accomodation/ cost of living and other problems.
Some of them the agent has made them paid up front for everything and as soon as they have landed in Sydney, they don't even have accomodation and are struggling with cost of living etc.
My point is anybody who is reading this pass on this message to Mauritius so people are aware waht's going on here and get themself prepared and organised.
I will be on holiday to Mauritius and will raise this issue also with he Authority.
Maybe Clancy can do something about this in Melbourne thanks.
