To Palonce:
Pity you do not read anything in French as you yourself stated, otherwise it would have been clearer what issues are being raised in this thread.
For the final time, let me repeat myself : It is not about Australia or how happy or unhappy, how successful or unsuccessful, Mauritians settled in Australia are.
It is about a perception in my humble opinion that that OZ-Mauritians faced certain discriminations when they RETURN to Mauritius. Now unless we challenge this perception with evidence , we shall never really know the truth.
But beyond perceptions, there is a real problem surrounding eligibilty to Citizenship of Mauritius for children born to Mauritian parents ( one or both) and who have since acquired another nationality, such as Australian or British or French. It does not matter whether they were born in Mauritius or born outside Mauritius. ( As was very clearly explained by Loulou)
Somehow they tend to lose their Mauritian nationality if at a cut off age of 21 years old, they did not apply for it.
It then become, I am told, a discretion of the sitting PM to grant citizenship to such applicants.
Now Dear Palonce , far from flogging a dead horse, this is a real problem for many children of happily settled parents be they in Australia, UK or France.
As to why on earth ( borrowing from your discourse)would they wish to take up Mauritian citizenship, I have not the slightest clue but this is irrelevant. It is not YOUR Opinion or mine that matters here. If they are entitled to it , it should not be REMOVED from them, especially willy nilly as Loulou puts it.
Hope this time round, my intentions if not my aruguments are clearer for you to comprehend. That , however should not prevent you from enjoying your rum under the sun and listening to our sega. FYI, I do not drink, but I do enjoy the sega and alas, in my part of the world, the sun is as elusive as snow in Mauritius!!
Gud day mate!!
