Beware and be cautious before signing any petition because you can be sued. unless you have an indemnity from the petitioner, i advise you not to sign petitions without knowing the legal consequences. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT there was this guy who has been once brought to court because he has signed a petition to stop the demolition of heritage protected house. He had to engage a lawyer to defend him because he was sued by the developer. so, my friends, just be careful. there seems nothing wrong supporting the chagosians, but just be mindful of the legal consequences if the petitioner does not provide any indemnity.
