Air Mauritius Fares

Air Mauritius return economy fares from 1 Feb to 15 Nov are $1440 from Perth, $1410 from Melbourne and $1230 from Sydney. Why does it costs $210 less to fly for 8 hours longer on the same airline ? Air Austral depart Sydney so Air Mauritius needs to be competitive on that trip but it looks like we're all just getting taken for a ride (if you'll pardon the pun).
