Posted by Opie Taylor on 11/18/2003, 1:54 am This whole special was a highlight when you get right down to it. But, in my opinion, some extra good scenes were when Andy, Don, Ron, and Jim got into the Mayberry characters again. I don't mean to be negative in any way, but some things I would have liked to have seen done differently are, for one, at least another hour of time! One hour just wasn't enough! Because we only had the one hour, I wish they had used fewer clips of the show. Every clip they showed was terrific, though. The only other thing I would have changed is the ending. They did a fine job of keeping the mood upbeat and joyous, even when talking about the passing of Frances Bavier, but the ending lost some of the joyousness. I wish they hadn't made such a point of showing the cast exit the courthouse. I think it would have been a little better to close the special with all of them still sitting in the courthouse enjoying the old times. Perhaps they could have ended with Jim Nabors singing "Mayberry, My Hometown" (from the episode A Singer In Town) with the rest of the cast joining in, or maybe a new tune composed for just this occasion. All in all, this was an EXCELLENT special! I am so thankful that they were able to get together and do this. It makes me very happy to hear that it did so well in the ratings. It just goes to show, "We the people..." still love Mayberry!

In your opinion, what were some of the highlights of "The Andy Griffith Show" Reunion Special? Also, what would you like to have seen done differently, if anything?
Andy's "Sarah, get me...Juanita." was very funny.
I really enjoyed seeing Don Knotts lock himself in the cell again--not to mention his "Did not. Did too. Did not. Did too." when talking about Otis. He is still just as funny as ever.
Ron Howard really kept the conversation moving. It was wonderful to hear how fond his memories are of "The Andy Griffith Show" and to see his continued friendship with his fellow cast members.
When Jim Nabors popped his head inside the courthouse door, it was like old times brought back to life again.
