Posted by Jason on 26/1/2006, 3:18 am, in reply to "Re: It's head tilt :-(" This morning when we came down, he was laying on his side in the middle of his pen. Much of the food that we left laying around his pen (had he gotten hungry we hoped he would eat it) had been clearly thrown from his pen due to the rolling. He was listless again as we gave him his meds and food. Holly is able to work from home today to be with him. I called the vet and set a time to bring him in tomorrow morning. If he has not shown any signs of improvement, we're going to have him put to sleep. It's really sad, but he has not shown any improvement, and the parasite hasn't even been neutralized by the medicine we've given him. Instead every day we see him, he's a little worse than the last. Since Sunny of a few days ago is having problems beating this parasite (even with meds), we think that the poor shell of our bunny doesn't have a chance. It's a tough choice to make, but with all the tales of success we've read on the internet with E. Cuniculi, I think it bears sharing that we believe after all that we've tried that SOMETIMES no amount of love and care can bring your bunny back. We just wish that we had known that such a thing as E. Cuniculi existed when Sunny was healthy and we maybe could have done something about it. In the future, anyone we see that has a rabbit (and hopefully anyone that reads this) needs to know: SEE A VET. HAVE YOUR BUNNY TESTED! Thanks for all your help with your ideas and suggestions. We're sorry we couldn't bring back better news.

Unfortunately, last night we came to check on him and he was laying huddled in his cage. His only movements were to roll uncontrollably 2-3 times. Sometimes he'd land on his feet, sometimes not. If he was on his feet, he took the opportunity to move around his pen, only to huddle down again a minute later for the episode to restart all over. He has completely stopped eating and drinking again, so we gave him all his meds and an extra large helping of critical care food and water. He did not put up any fight as we gave him the medicine and food, and appeared, as you indicated in your message above, unfortunately listless.
