Unfortunately the Queensland government is behind the rest of Australia and still ban rabbits as pets. In fact the last time it came up for review the fine was increased from $3000 to $30,000!
That said I have heard of people keeping 'long-earred guinea pigs', however, you need to be aware that if caught you will be fined and the rabbit will be euthanised.
There are petitions out there trying to change this if you're interested.
