With the male this will help control things like spraying (which is really unpleasant) and for the girl it will remove the risk of uterine cancer and help with aggressive behaviour. The doe's are way more hormonal than the males once they hit the teen years and very protective of their space. Start thinking about desexing around 4-6 months.. it will usually be fairly obvious. One other recommendation, find a vet now that you feel comfortable with. Good bunny vets are hard to find. Personally I prefer someone that is willing to learn as there are some outdated and harmful beliefs/opinions that are still held as gospel and if your vet isn't willing to listen and work with you, it could cost the life of your rabbit. There are some vets listed at the link below that other rabbit owners have used and recommend. http://charm.air.on.ca/raytec/AustralianRabbitVets.htm good luck with the bunnies! Melony

Actually many believe that boy/girl is the best combination. Couples of the same gender can and do get along if desexed but you're more likely to run into problems at some stage. I've never yet had a boy/girl bond break but have had a number of same gender bonds start fighting if the balance is upset.
