Posted by Steven Ferreira For those are not aware of Alberta fair racing history, there used to be more than a half dozen fair tracks that operated (although Drumheller wasn't one of them). With the planned reopening of Red Deer next year, I think you may see a gradual spread out of the race dates from Whoop-Up Downs and Grande Prairie(the northernmost parimutuel track in North America) to other venues. Most of the fair tracks still exist (several are used for chariot racing); the only modifications needed would be stalls and parimutuel operations. By the way, Drumheller is home to the finest dinosaur museum in the world, the Royal Tyrell Museum (hence the dinosaur connection).

February issue of "The Racing Journal" is reporting that Drumheller, Alberta is strongly seeking race dates, as early as this summer, in conjunction with the fine folks at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club (Lethbridge-Whoop Up Downs). Turns out that they already have a 5 furlong race track, which is currently used for chariot racing, and is known, if I gleaned this accurately from the article, as Dinosaur Downs (whouldn't this make for some cool T-shirts, Terry, with Brontosauruses and T-Rexes runing down the stretch with jockeys on their back).
