I enjoyed your pics of the many venues that you have attended. I am 57 and have attended about 80% of the tracks that you have mentioned and have pictures of. I have also been to most of the tracks in Canada, Mexico, and a few in Asia many years ago.
I have been to the Bush League tracks as well as the Major League plants. My two favorite tracks are (Standardbreds) Goshen's Historic Track and (Thoroughbreds) Hualapai Downs.
Goshen many years ago was once the hotbed pf harness racing. They even held the Hambletonian in Goshen at the old Good Time Park. That was a miler and Historic was the half-miler. They eliminated pari-mutuel wagering some time ago up there but they still have been having a one week New York Sire Stake meeting there, usually around July 4th time. A fantastic venue it is and if you listen real closely, you may hear Greyhound or Rosalind or even the great Hambo himself taking a little jog around the oval.
Hualapai Downs is in dusty Kingman, Arizona. They run four race cards there annually. Usually Preakness weekend and Mothers' Day weekend. The little town comes alive during those four days and I am proud to say that I have not missed a meet since I have been living here in Las Vegas. (Since 1994)
We have a radio show here in Las Vegas. Oddly enough it's called Raceday Las Vegas. It's on everyday. I am proud to say that I am one of the regular contributors to that show. When I am on, I am referred to as "The Mystery Trip Handicapper." I don't use my name as I am a retired Detective, (22 years, NYPD) I don't see any reason to let some of the bad guys I put away years ago, know where I live.
If you would like to enjoy some real grass roots racing, try getting out to Kingman during their race meet in May. I am sure you'll have a blast.
I've been to Breeder's Cups and Breeder's Crowns. Ive been going to racetracks since I was a child, but none are more fun that Hualapai Downs...
If you need some more info, feel free to get back to me.
I really enjoy your writing....it's the way I think I would write about some of the adventures also...
Take Care...
Steve
