Hey Terry,
I enjoyed reading all of your tour stories. My wife and I are regulars at Philly Park. Your write up on the track was pretty accurate - they definately cater to the simulcasting crowd. This is ok, because that has been keeping the track in business the last few years. Good times must come to an end as the racetrack is becoming a "racino". They considered putting the slots in an adjacent new building, however the plans to build it failed. They can't put the slots on the vacant 3rd floor because it can't hold the weight. So they are ripping out all the simulcasting on the 1st floor (which has the bar that we drink beer at). Pennsylvania is giving the racetracks twice as much towards purses as other "racino" states. I have heard rumors that the purses could be very close to those at Belmont or Saratoga. I know Philly is not top quality racing, however it amuses me to no end seeing people dump $100 on a 9.5k claimer that is going off at 8/5, then finishes in last. However those days will come to an end as the track is ruined with the "ding-ding-ding" of the slot machine.
