A member of the MA HBPA has confirmed that there will be no racing at Northampton this year. For reasons which are not known, the Executive Fair Board members do not want racing, so unless there is a public outcry or change of heart by the Board, racing will not return in future years. It appears that financially they were still making good money with the races, so who knows what they are thinking. The Northampton area will certainly feel the negative economic impact, but there does not seem to be any kind of organized efforts to influence the fair board. I understand that only a few vendors showed up at the fair in 2006, and that the midway rides lost significant money. Maybe in a few years after attendance drops dramatically the board with see the error of their ways.
