Posted by Chris While nothing can replace the Northampton experience, the Timonium fair is an acceptable alternative. (I plan to attend all 7 days to get "my" Northampton fix.) Racing is on a 5/8 mile oval with highly banked turns. Earlier speed is not nearly as important as at Nmp, except for the 4f sprints. In addition to the 9-10 live races, afternoon simulcasting is available and includes tracks such as Sar, Del, Mth, Crc, and Pha. Admission is around $6 which gets you in to the races and fair. Parking is available outside the fair for $ 3-5, but try to arrive by 12:30 p.m. Grandstand seating is plenty and mostly free, and offers an excellent view of the entire track. (No infield entry is available like Nmp.) I'm not too familiar with the rest of the fair, except that I can highly recommend the food "pavillion" deep within the fair. Food choices include chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, and SEAFOOD! If you do go be sure to check out the neat racing mural on the back wall on the second floor of the racing structure, and let me know what day(s) you plan to attend so that I can say hi to another fellow track collector. P.S. If you still want more action after the fair races, Charles Town races (about 1 hr + 45 minutes away) has a 7:15 p.m. post on Friday and Saturday evenings and offers 10 live races and more simulcasting.
