White Pine County fair grounds, Ely, Nv.
2007 dates were Aug. 15/16th sat/ sun.
Easy to get to off of Rte 93 with the entrance to the fairgrounds easy to find.
Parking is free and the admission to the races
was $6. The fair was for free and there wasnt too
much to it unlike ELKO.
At the admission booth there was also the
$3 newspaper/program.
Most horses were from Les Boise Park
as were the jockeys but there was some horse
shipping in from wyoming and from montana and there was plenty of hurters riding there too.
Plenty of windows for wagering and the
mutuel tellers were way better in ELY than ELKO
and they were not trying to solicit tips.
The track itself was a 5/8's bullring and
speed was not necessary to win as the ELY course
played to runners coming off the pace a bit.
The funniest scene was in the paddock
which was the size of someones backyard
was seeing some of the jockeys saddling
their mounts themselves as there was only 2
valets and the most hilarious scene was
"jockey" Vince Montano saddling his mounts
while he smoked a cigarette .
