Posted by Terry Bjork Not much of a place yet. The track is in place, and kind of a cheesy paddock, as well as a big barn building built by the university. But the actual people/betting facilities consist of a bunch of uncovered aluminum bleachers, a concrete apron with some tables, a couple of newly planted grassy areas for those who brought their own chairs, a big tent out back with the mutuels and (portable) concessions, and a restroom trailer behind that. Supposedly all the real grandstand and so on will be Phase II. I hope their weather hangs on "good" as I wouldn't want to be out there on a rainy day. The racing wasn't so special. Pretty small fields of Chippewa quality horses. And either they are really slow or this track is really deep, as the times recorded for those that had already raced over the Fargo strip were VERY slow. But the crowd was big and enthusiastic, if inexperienced. Also the management from the top down was out there amongst the crowd, talking and greeting doing its best to make everyone welcome, with all the officers wearing polo shirts with their name and position embroidered on the front so you could see who they were. All help nice and friendly as well. A good start except for lack of people facilities. I think a visit next year might be in order if they have built the grandstand by then. Best of luck to them in the future. I'll have a story and pictures up relatively soon.
