The old guy who used to announce at Marshfield --was his name Chandler? -- I believe he was a supporter of Thoroughbred racing there and when he died so did the racing. It's hard for me to believe, though, and if somebody had said 20 years ago that it would happen I would have laughed. They used to handle 500 to 800 thousand a day regularly, their percentage of which is a nice chunk of change for a fair. I guess they just don't need the money. Too bad; it was my favorite fair.
