Greetings...as a devotee of nonedescript, little known, rarely visited tracks, I must inform you folks on Hualapai Downs! It is a tiny county fair in Kingman, Arizona. It is just off I-40 in a beautiful setting. I first discovered this little bullring 4 years ago as a correspondent on the Raceday Las Vegas Radio Show on KSHP-Las Vegas.
This track is operated only 4 days each calendar year. Usually on Preakness weekend and Mother's Day weekend. It has become a traditional journey for us here at Raceday Las Vegas to visit whenever they run. The Arizona State Fair runs it and they have Thoroughbreds and Quarterhorse races. If anyone has ever visited the old Historic Track in Goshen, NY back in the glory years of Grand Circuit racing, Hualapai Downs is a vivid reminder of what small town racing is all about. The vendors, cotton candy, the 4H booth, etc. It is a place that I look forward to being at, just as much as my younger years when the Hambletonian was a ritual.
