Posted by Steve Ferreira Track management has stated that year-round simulcasting would do more for the ecomony since the jobs created will then be permanent. The governor's people fear that year-round simulcasting might mean that no live racing would be conducted. Seems they have a few issues to work out. At least this administration is not as adamantly anti-gambling as the last; unfortunately, I don't think anybody in the state of Vermont understands simulcasting in the least bit. Also, the anti-dog racing folks don't want the track to reopen. Finally, major improvements are needed to the facility, especially in regards to sewage treatment. Doesn't seem likely that the owners will put the dough in without year-round simulcasting. The whole process should be quite entertaining...a return to racing will probably not happen in 2003...but may by 2004.

Green Moutain's reopening is a key component of the newly elected governor's economic redevelopment plan for southern Vermont. However, the owners of the track have indicated that they want year-round simulcasting to be made legal (currently, only simulcasting on race days is allowed). The governor has proposed allowing simulcasting during a meet (even on dark days).
