-- status quo, whereby drugs considerably less destructive biologically and socially, than liquor and fags remain demonised, and therefore illegal, and therefore MUCH more profitable to all the snouts in that particular trough? Which includes, of course, directly or indirectly many of those same hack-keeping gics who own the corporate media......
After all 'we' are helping the US imperial gics to fight their aggression-war in Central Asia precisely so that they can maintain the size of, and harden their control on, two highly addictive and destructive hyperprofit-generators -- petro and opium -- at the same time that they try to shut out the other two damned-empire contenders, Russia and China, for these ultimate Great-Game prizes; and to threaten them with USukisnato next-generation nuclear missiles on their own borders to boot. The US imperial gics, and their local-comprador gics who own the puppet governments both here and in Afghanistan, are deeply into drug profits, one way or another.
With all the mass of interconnections between the US gics' global empire of business and their dependent-sidekick gics** here, there's no doubt that 'our' gics expect to get at least the sidekick's share of the spoils (should they ever be won securely; big if!) of the attack on AfPak, as part of the wider effort to seize control of the Caspian-Hormuz Sweetoil Corridor and its pipeline routes. Hence their obdurate continuing commitment to these aggressions, despite the hostility of public opinion.
(There's also 'our' gics' sheer, blue-funk, wetting-themselves terror about what happens if Britain gets as severely strapped for all forms of petro-energy in the very near future as all the portents are suggesting. There's an angry populist revolution in the brewing, if you like! But that's a whole other story about why the Westminster pocket-pols and their gic masters are still so committed to the asset-grabbing aggressions in SW and Central Asia)
Can't think why, apart from these wheels within wheels, that the careless-amoralist hackate of the corporate media would give a damn about currently-illegal drugs otherwise, especially since the hacks seem to use them as much as anyone else.
** An interesting vignette about these interconnections: Every few years, pensioners get a form-letter from the local big hospital group, asking us to take part in a mass-screening campaign for bowel cancer. This is the NHS doing this, of course, at tax-payer expense. Does the NHS then do the tests in-house itself, at minimum expense? What do you think! The samples which we're urged to take should then be posted, in the prepaid envelopes provided (at taxpayer expense) to a firm of commercial Big Pharma schmucks in -- that's right: New Jersey, in the good ol' US of A -- whom the taxpayers will then re-imburse generously for their questionable trouble. Who sold that idea to whom, do you suppose, amongst the densely-interconnected gics and their servants on both sides of the pond? And were we asked? Or even told?
