Eds said earlier ~
"At times it really did feel like Sackur was giving a speech rather than conducting an interview - at one point it was so extreme I thought Chomsky might actually comment on it."
In fact NC did make a sort of sidebar comment. When faced by an seemingly endless array of his previous quotes and writings, and asked to respond to them on the spot, he said something to the effect that when one is asked to reply instantly, and in a few brief comments to a question, opinions do come out as being dogmatic (I'm paraphrasing here) rather than considered and nuanced. Of course this is the total antithesis of what Sackur's Hardtalk is all about. Sackur and his producers don't want thoughtful considered replies, or deep analysis of what their subject thinks, or any kind of meaningful dialogue and debate ~ they want HARDTALK!!! (listen to the pounding disco-throb over the credits to realise this) which is the journalistic equivalent of viagra. Don't give me a story goddammit ~ give me a hard on!
The whole thing actually is a sick pathetic joke. Sackur stroking his chin in that thouthful sceptical "I'm a journalist and not easily fooled" pose is so laughable that I long for Chris Morris to come back and demolish this wanker.

: Even the full interview seemed to be very
: heavily edited in a desperate attempt to
: make the interviewer look better.
:
: It seems the BBC found the most hopelessly
: Western Ideology indoctrinated hack they
: could find. He did his best several times to
: stop Chomsky speaking so he wouldn't have to
: hear his own world view challenged.
:
: The discomfiture on the faces of these
: people is always telling.
:
: I have to make a point though, and that is
: that "capturing Osama Bin Laden"
: was merely the *stated* reason for invading
: Afghanistan, not the actual reason. It's
: well documented that the invasion was
: planned well in advance - how did they know
: they were going to have to capture OBL? (not
: that they made any real attempt to - the
: opposite in fact).
:
: There is the infamous quote from a US
: 'diplomat' during the failed negotiations
: for the pipeline deal: "either you
: accept our offer of a carpet of gold or we
: bury you under a carpet of bombs".
:
: Even if we accept the conventional
: explanation for 9/11, it is self evident
: that the invasion was part of the same
: Resource/Hegemony War which was later
: extended to the theatre of Iraq, and which
: may be extended still further to Iran, even
: as it is being widened into Pakistan.
:
: These are the real reasons.
