Posted by MarieM on 9/11/2006, 4:04 pm, in reply to "A question" I am surviving - three weeks and counting. my suggestion: The hospital where I'm getting treatment has a social worker, who runs their "cancer resource center". He offers free counseling sessions for patients and family, he not only understands all the emotional issues but can direct people to support groups and other resources that can help. In any event this is a good first step to finding help with the emotional part of this. There seems to be a trend in offering this type of service, unlike when MY mom went through this in the 70's. Most of the hospitals in this area have a similar program. Even if you mom isn't ready to take that step, you should be able to use those resources and talk through the issues with someone in order to better understand this and help your mom. there's a great book called "Breast Cancer Husband" by Marc Silver. - I highly recommend it for anyone supporting a cancer patient. Peace and Love to all of you who are going through this with your loved one.
