Jeff,
Thanks! A "greater power" has guided me to this site. We are very open with friends and anybody ref Leslie's condition. It is our hope to help others as we help ourselves. I look other men that I work with and talk to about it and remind them to go home and schedule a mammogram for their spouse and ensure she goes. I plan to leverage everyones experiences to help my wife "Leslie" get through this challenge. She has breast cancer in the left breast and on 20 Nov had a double mastectomy. She told the docs to go ahead and remove the other breast - just for piece of mind. During her mastectomy, the plastic surgeon put skin expanders in - anticpating reconstruction with inplants sometime within next 6 months or less. However, timing will likely depend on alot of other factors etc. The pathology report after her mastectomy indicated that some of the lymph nodes are involved now. The doc classified Leslie as Stage IIB. We attend our first meeting with the Oncologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC soon. In fact, the Surgeon that did the Mastectomy on Leslie spoke very highly of the doctors at the Breast Clinic there. His wife has Cancer and is being seen by them right now. It is comforting to me that I know that Leslie is going to get the best medical care available. Despite the daily challenges and sacrifices of military life, I must admit that the medical care is absolutely outstanding. Our focus right now is to get going with the treatment - whatever it may be. Both of us are not the type of individuals to sit around waiting for things to happen. We like to make things happen. I am confident that we will pull through this, but am saddened that she is having to suffer.
