Michael, Mum's see it as their responsibility to be more worried about their children than about themselves. That's what she has been good at for years. Its normal to cope the way we usually manage things, so she' probably just being "normal". She may feel she can manage her "own stuff" but feels for you trying to manage "your stuff" as she can't do it for you. Try reading some of the material she has on early breast cancer, she may well have good reason to be optimistic, now is the time to have it diagnosed and treated.
