Speaking of Dandy-lions,
My Grandmother used to make a pretty incredible wine from them. She also picked and steamed wild mustard greens---tasted better than spinach.
For some great genetically diverse plants (not all uniformly 'off the rack' varieties) try a company called 'Seed Savers'. They specialize in keeping some old-old-old strains of plants and vegetables available for today's farmers/families. They may have a web site also....
People forget that plants also should maintain a genetic variance to help stave off disease and pests. Some Native American strains of corn may not have as high a yield as their more attractive commercial counterparts, but they do well with less water, and are not as fragile--tolerating heat and pests well. And the colors of the kernels are absolutely beautiful!
