Sickening. I watched this on the news the other day. It happened at a Clovis New Mexico cattle auction. The owner of the auction house had the audacity to say that in over 20 years they had NEVER had an incident like that happen. What he should have said is that in over 20 years no one has said anything about it.
I've seen some really bad cases here locally where sick-injured livestock were pushed-pulled-dragged into the ring to be bid on, then pushed-pulled-dragged outside to wait for several hours/days to be picked up by the trucks that take them to slaughter houses.
No one questions the health of the animals---it is just assumed that the meat is o.k.. I guess in most people's minds; "Meat is meat." As long as they don't see the sickness beneath that shiny plastic wrap that covers up their steaks, they are happy.
Didn't Mad Cow Disease originate from sheep? I recall seeing a special on it many years ago---the sick sheep transmitted the disease to cattle (then to humans) through a manufacturing process that ground up the sheep brains, and recombined the 'mush' with other ingredients, then it was packaged as cattle feed.
