While Scripture clearly takes a stance against "kindlinig a flame in your habitations on the Sabbath day"...so far, as I can find, there is no mandate to actually LIGHT candles in the timeframe. At this point, such seems to be a HEBREW custom, in order to fulfill the mandate to REMEMBER two particular events, and two passages giving such ordinance.
I don't see anything wrong with the practice, as long as the Scriputal mandate not to Light a flame "ON THE SABBATH" as in once it has begun and during it's timeframe is noted.
And I certainly was trying to overshadow Wendi's post here nor here intent. I was however as I stated, concerned for those predispostioned to easily embrace ceremony to understand not to actually PERFORM the act PHYSICALLY in the timeframe as the timeframe between 14-21 Nissan contains MORE than the weekly Sabbath, there is A HIGH HOLY SABBATH to consider, and the first and last days of that timeframe are to be treated as HOLY CONVOCATIONS, as SABBATHS.
After initially posting my ideas on the subject, not offering CONCRETE evidences to the stance noted, and realizing the importance of the same, I spent a good bit of time searching the matter out to report it back to you here. I realize it was not Wendi's intent to delve so deeply into a subject, but I also realize it may not have been anyone esles to Sin on the Sabbath, ANY SABBATH, and in effort to help to those ends, I studied the matter out to find those things I had learned prior, that you may learn them now. For even if being told without given PROOF, just by noting that scripture warned against such, you surely would have been accountable. So I set out to PROVE or DISPROVE that which I offered in my intitial reply in this post Friday at Noon.
