May 5, 1979: Two minutes before Carter was about to speak at the civic center mall in Los Angeles, Raymond Lee Harvey was arrested carrying a pistol. He later told authorities that he and another man, Osvaldo Ortiz, were hired to create a diversion so that Mexican hit men armed with sniper rifles could kill Carter. Charges against him were dismissed for lack of evidence.

and Vernon Howell who would later become Lois Roden's husband, and then David Koresh, came to Mt. Carmel in 1980 for the first time.

On March 30, 1981, following a speaking engagement at the Hilton Washington Hotel in Washington, D.C., Reagan and three others were shot and wounded by John Hinckley, Jr., as Reagan was returning to his limousine. The others that were shot were White House Press Secretary James Brady, Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, and D.C. police officer Thomas Delahanty, all of whom survived, though Brady was permanently disabled. Reagan survived and recovered after emergency surgery at nearby George Washington University Hospital.

April 13, 1993: Sixteen men, in the alleged employment of Saddam Hussein's Iraq, smuggled a car bomb into Kuwait with the intent of killing Bush as he spoke at Kuwait University. The plot was foiled when Kuwaiti officials found the bomb and arrested the suspected assassins.[13] Bush had left office in January 1993. On June 26, 1993, the U.S. launched a missile attack targeting Baghdad intelligence headquarters in retaliation for the attempted attack against Bush.[14] The Iraqi Intelligence Service, particularly Directorate 14, was accused of being behind the plot.

As far as I can tell, this is the only time an assasination attempt has been made against a "FORMER" President.
Interesting timeline though. Especially for one of the most famous and outspoken advocates of the NEW WORLD ORDER.

September 12, 1994: Frank Eugene Corder flew a single-engine Cessna into the White House lawn, apparently trying to hit the White House. The President and First Family were not home at the time. Corder was the only casualty.
October 29, 1994: Francisco Martin Duran fired at least 29 shots with a semi-automatic rifle at the White House from a fence overlooking the north lawn, thinking that Clinton was among the men in dark suits standing there (Clinton was in the White House Residence watching a football game). A tourist named Harry Rakosky tackled Duran before he could injure anyone. Duran was found to have a suicide note in his pocket and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Okay two attempts here in this year. In every event in which there were TWO attempts on the same President, there were TWO, messengers on the scene, though such was not evident at the time.
Such was the case with Lincoln in 1861 James White with his Publication the Herald and Review was highly instrumental in the formation of the Early SDA movment. His wifes Articles published in the same, were not immediately evident
to what would become SDA Hierarchy in 1863, none the less, James White, the Early President of the General Conference, and Ellen White would both be influential in being used of God to shape the movement. in 1865 When Lincoln was actually assassinated, her role was becoming very evident.
The Next time, with John F. Kennedy, you had in 1961 and attempt, and Florence Houteff on her last leg of her ministry.
In 1963, As Kennedy was assassinated, you had Ben Roden going forward undisputed and Florence Houteff considered a false Prophet. However, near the end of his ministry, Ben Roden agitated many Branch Davidians with the announcement that God had revealed to him that some of Florence Houteff's visions concering WW3 and the establishiment of the Kingdom were indeed true visions. This situation with 2 attempts of which were years apart, and the latter successfull offer type and anti-type perhaps, but not necessarilly, still, the messengers in the former, James and Ellen White, were unfied in their presentation. Ben Roden and Florence Houteff were at odds seemingly with
one another.
