Thursday, Exodus 4:1 thru 4:20
Remember that thing about Moses lack of confidence? IN the very
opening verse of this chapter we such, and Moses tells God…”They
aren’t gonna believe me, and they won’t do what I say, and they are
gonna say I am lying when I tell them about this…”
And God asks him what is in his hand, and Moses replies “A Rod.” And
Moses is told to cast it on the ground and it becomes a serpent and
Moses runs, and God instructs Moses to take it by the tail and pick it
up again, and it again becomes a rod. Then Moses is told to place his
hand under his shirt, and then pull it out and he does and when he
pulls it out, it’s white all over with leprosy, and he is told to
repeat the act and he does and it is clean again. So, God
demonstrates these miracles to Moses first, offering him proof, he
didn’t say…go to them, and then throw the rod on the ground, he gave
Moses a preview.
In the Video on THE BIBLE CODE REVEALED” they call upon an expert, who
notes that Napolean’s engineers proved the possibility of the Exodus
across the Red Sea and found a Natural land bridge beneath in a
certain location about 100 feet below the ocean. They calculated with
a strong enough East wind, due to the geography of the Ocean floor
that the effect seen in Exodus could occur and then they calculated
when such conditions would exist, to which Napolean stood on the sand,
with the Red Sea parted, in his lifetime, the first man recorded in
history to do so since the days of the Exodus, and with water on both
sides ( The expert built a model and showed how the wind at a certain
angle would achieve such) and then the winds shifted unexpectedly and
Napolean nearly drowned.
I have wondered since, in that Moses took the Israelites straight to
the Red Sea, if it were not possible that God Showed him that Miracle
in advance as well, if so, it is not documented. But we will see some
interesting words between Moses and God at that time, in which God
tells Moses “What are asking me for? Take em forward…” as if to
say…”You already know you can cross here…” but inspired or not, such
for now, seems speculative.
In vs 8 of chapter 4, underline “VOICE OF THE FIRST SIGN” and “VOICE
OF THE LATTER SIGN” and in your margin note “Signs “SPEAK” volumes”
and beneath that…note the difference between signs and omens…in your
margin place “SIGNS ARE GIVEN, OMENS ARE SOUGHT”.
And we see a 3rd sign in vs 9, as in vs 8 Moses is told to show the
Rod turning to a Serpent and then rod again, and his arm turn Leprous
then whole again to the Israelites and that if they would not believe
the 1st sign, they would hearken to the VOICE of the latter sign. IN
Vs 9, he is told to take water out of the River and pour it out upon
the ground and it will become blood on the ground, but he is only to
do this if they believe not the 1st two signs nor hearken to his
voice.
Underline the last statement in vs 10 and we see again the doubt of
Moses, whom God had intended to speak to all, but Moses persists in
his doubt, and angers God in vs 14, and is told to speak to his
brother Aaron, and Aaron will be his spokes person. Underline the 1st
sentence in vs 14, all of vs 15 and Underline and pay special
attention to the last statement in vs 16, as we will emphasize this
again later on. And so Moses is told to take his Rod in his hand,
and he will use it to do signs. So we see a symbol being established
by God, one which will not be understood for many generations.
In vs 18 Moses asks permission of his Father in law to go to Egypt to
free his people and is given such.
In Vs 19, we see God inform Moses it is time to go, and all those who
sought his life are now dead.
Underline the 1st statement in vs 20 and in your margin note “MOSES
HAS MORE AT LEAST ONE MORE SON, and TAKES THEM AND HIS WIFE INTO
EGYPT.”
We will pick up here tomorrow and finish this chapter for Friday’s
Study, noting some popular concepts about Moses and have a light study
as we go into preparations for Sabbath.
