I remember watching so much of the coverage on the news at the time and thinking, this is sick. How can this be happening in America.
Later as the tapes began to surface from private citizens who recorded the "circus" atmosphere of the media, enjoying every second of it, I was even more horrified.
Now, this many years later, looking back on it... having been to Mt. Carmel several times, knowing the land around that area so well... it is so much more "real" than it was then. So much more powerful and moving to realize... this did happen, and most people don't even care.
