And so another Sabbath has begun. Did you have a good week? I hope so. I know that I did - much better than last, when I was ill.
We had a rainstorm last night, and this morning I found a young kitten, wandering around in the puddles confused and frightened. Her mother had apparently been caught in a trap the night before, so the kitten was outside all alone in the storm. I dried it off and made arrangements for it to be picked up and taken to the animal shelter but...
... When I got home this evening I found that something had gone wrong in that plan. So I had to scramble to find formula to feed it, and prepare a cage for it. And then I struggled with the idea that the shelter people were willing to pick it up tomorrow - on Sabbath. Not wanting them to do that, I began asking the neighbors... does anyone want a kitten?
It didn't look like it would happen, but I'm unable to keep it. I was still wondering what to do about it, when my friend said she would take it home, and keep it. So as this Sabbath begins, the kitten - now christened "Sherbert," has a new home and all is well.
I love baby animals... kittens, puppies, whatever. They are such a real and tangible reminder of the miracle of new life.
Happy Sabbath... May you have a restful one.
