"For that matter “THEY”as verse 3 starts that “ And THEY (Moses AND Aaron) Said” weren’t to be speaking at all, at this point Only Aaron is supposed to be speaking the content of that which Moses told him in Exodus 4:29 and Speaking alone by the Mandate of God in Exodus 4:15. "
And nobody is working, because they are all waiting to see what happens with Moses and Aaron efore Pharaoh, and what does Pharaoh do? In Vs 4,5 of Chp 5, he says…”What do you think you’re doing causing everybody to stop working…GET BACK TO WORK. And Furthermore, you have caused all these many people to stop working,” and he turns his officers and tells them “they got all this time on their hands, don’t give them any more straw, let them gather straw for themselves to make their bricks, and they better meet their regular quota anyway, lazy people are idle, and they say “LET US GO AND DO SACRIFICE TO OUR GOD.” You see that, Moses and Aaron bungle the message twice, but The Message God wanted to get across, is the Message that got across, despite the failings of his messengers. Often it is with God and his messengers, and lest you criticize them I ask you consider, Do you think being a spokesperson for God is an easy task? I assure you it is not, and here we see that even Moses and Aaron could not get it right. The greater message here is not that they failed to give the correct message, but that they obeyed in approaching Pharaoh in the first place. Such could have ended their very lives. In Hawaiian history, people could lose their very life simply for touching even the very shadow of their king. But they went, and even though they bungled their words, God Blessed them, and that which they were told to say, did get conveyed, even though they never really said it.
IN Vs 7 We see Pharaoh command no straw be given the Hebrews to make their bricks, then we see him justify his actions to his officers who must have thought such harsh, and he makes a speech about how those Hebrews are lazy, appealing to the existing bigotry amongst the Egyptians towards their now slaves, and calling them “IDLE,” and accusing them of wining as the “CRY…LET US GO DO SACRAFICE TO OUR GOD.” (vs 8)
