World’s Fastest Street Car?
Written by New York Motorsports
Dave Hance, founder of Shakedown at E’town, shattered both ends of the quarter mile Drag Radial World Record this past weekend at Bradenton Motorsports Park, Bradenton, Florida while competing at the U.S. Street Nationals. On two separate passes Dave ran the record setting performances, a 6.93 e.t. and a 223.07 mph blast, in his 1993 Stock Suspension Ford Mustang on DOT radial tires without wheelie bars.
After a mishap at the Shakedown at E’town, the car was repaired in three weeks. Then the intense testing began. In a few short months, he completely turned it all around.
During testing at the U.S. Street Nationals, Dave ran 7.10 @ 221.16; 7.05 @ 223.07; 7.04 @ 219.60; and 6.93 @ 207.66 (hurt engine). On the record 223 pass, he pedaled the car several times during the run as it got into a little tire shake about 40 feet out and made a move to the left. He was driving the car all the way down the track trying to keep it in the groove. The 1/8 mile was 4.70 @ 160.
On the 6.93 pass, Dave stated, “I was on one hell of a pass. The run was straight and hard. It was like a vacuum sucking me down the track. It wasn’t a full pass though. I heard a noise in the motor and I knew something was hurt. I started turning everything off and threw the chutes. When I saw the track officials were jumping up and down, I knew we did it. Then they handed me the time slip.”
Dave credits his sponsors, crew, longtime friends and associates. Hance candidly summed up the success, “You throw them all in a pot, a little tomato, a little garlic, mix it all up and you come up with a nice 6.93 sauce!”
Dave also reset both ends of the eighth mile records in Drag Radial, to 4.661 e.t., and 172.10 mph, during the U.S. Street Nationals. On a side note, Dave won the top speed award in Pro Mod at Bradenton with a 187.80 mph blast while qualifying # 5 in the tough Pro Mod field.
Thanks to the generous support of Dave’s sponsors, ATI Performance, Mickey Thompson Tires, Precision Turbo, Big Stuff 3, VP Race Fuels, Scotty’s Racing Technology and New York Motorsports, these world records were set at the U.S. Street Nationals.
