Now I know these days, the anti-consensus has resulted in this being considered a laughable thing to say, but I think it's true that smokers are indeed in general cooler, and more fun to hang out with than non-smokers. Even back in school, and most of my first year at uni before I properly got started, I'd observed that most of the people most fun to spend time with smoked, at least socially if not full time.
I think the reason for this is that if someone has an independent brain in their head, and does not just accept all the anti info without personal investigation, and has an ounce of curiosity and imagination, as smart, interesting people usually do, then at some point they are likely to have tried a few cigarettes, out of curiosity if nothing else. And of course once you've tried a few cigarettes you are probably going to find out inhaling tobacco smoke is a very pleasurable thing to do. And if you value doing the enjoyable thing over the sensible thing, as fun people tend to do, once you've found that out you will probably continue smoking and become a smoker.
So while smoking in itself will probably not make you a smarter, more fun or more interesting person, the psychological factors at play make it more than likely that smart, fun, interesting people will be smokers.
Not universally true of course, but I definitely think there is some truth in this. What do you all think?
