Why aren't you allowed to smoke? You're 48, and as such law aside should make your own rules.
Also be aware it gets harder and harder to keep it in the closet - at three weeks of smoking you may or may not already be addicted - but once you are not being able to smoke when you need to is pretty hellish - the cravings will either make you come out, or worse yet, if you do keep it in the closet result in you becoming moody and irritable all the time, because you are constantly craving a cigarette. At extremes this can potentially damage your relationships more than being known as a smoker, so I think it's to be avoided at all costs.
