Just wondering do folks normally observe the various smoking bans we're faced with these days?
For my part, I usually respect inside smoking bans, but honestly I wouldn't smoke inside anyway, if there were non-smokers about who'd rather not breathe smoke, except in my own home. That's just good manners, and shouldn't actually require rules.
Outside bans thought, are just petty and mean spirited in my opinion, and so I completely disregard those, unless there's actual enforcement, with the potential for severe consequences if they aren't followed. I smoke daily in the covered area outside the train stations at either end of my commute for instance, where smoking is banned, but so do half the station staff, so I think there's very little chance of trouble there.
The only times I recall flouting indoor bans were back before I quit drinking, like in the toilets of nightclubs, where sometimes they closed the smoking nearly two hours before closing time for some demented reason. Oh and inside the tents at Glastonbury - I wasn't drinking then, but the bans were so widely disregarded I figured it was OK for me to ignore them as well.
