I'd stick with the lites. I've only done that chaining thing once myself, and it was weeks ago. Such a terrible nicotine fit! Some days you just need more, some days you don't. It could be a one-time event, or a rare sporadic need.
You can also smoke lites more aggressively to get more nicotine. (longer drags, longer holds, double pumps, etc.)
A few months ago, I realized I wasn't smoking enough. Cravings can give an edgy yet enjoyable feeling, but it's time to move up when it becomes constantly distracting. I doubled my intake and everything was fine afterward. I leveled out in the 5-10 range and the problem has never come back. Then I shifted most of my consumption to an e-cigarette, so I can get more nicotine without getting so much tar and carbon monoxide -- that doesn't agree with me unless I keep my consumption down. (Then I love it.
)
Tolerance can be confusing. It sounds like your body just needs more cigarettes. You should probably take your time finding your natural level.
