I don't think any of the quit advice says this, but actually if you did want to stop, using a period of having proper flu to do so is a really good move.
I know of a few people who wanted to quit for ages, and just couldn't do it, who managed by doing it whilst having the flu - basically you get to skip the really bad first few days of nicotine withdrawal, because you already feel worse than the withdrawal is making you feel, and by the time you are better from the flu, the cravings are still there, but the period of intense physical suffering withdrawal brings is already done with.
